Why I Almost Quit at Week 2

I mentioned this briefly in my weeks 1-2 diary entry, but it deserves its own post, because I think the reasons I almost quit are more common โ€” and more instructive โ€” than the reasons I didn't.

What Was Actually Going Through My Head

By day 10, I'd taken 10 capsules, experienced 3 days of mild stomach adjustment, and had absolutely nothing else to show for it. No energy change, no craving change, no anything. My internal monologue was some version of "this is exactly what happens with every supplement โ€” big promises, no results, and I'm the idiot who fell for it again."

Three Specific Things Almost Made Me Stop

Reason 1: Pattern-Matching to Past Disappointments

I've tried other supplements before that did nothing. My brain was actively pattern-matching this experience to those, and every day without a noticeable change reinforced that expectation.

Reason 2: The Marketing Set Me Up to Expect Faster Results

Even knowing I should discount marketing language, some of it had lodged in my head โ€” vague implications of quick transformation that made two weeks of nothing feel like more evidence of failure than it probably was.

Reason 3: I Hadn't Yet Looked Into the Actual Ingredient Research

I didn't do this until after finishing the trial (see my ingredient research post), but in hindsight, knowing that Berberine and similar ingredients typically take 3+ weeks to show measurable effects would have recalibrated my week-2 expectations significantly.

What Actually Kept Me Going

Mostly stubbornness about finishing what I'd committed to for this diary, if I'm honest โ€” not some deep faith in the product. I'm glad that stubbornness won out, because the real signal showed up in week 3, right after I'd nearly given up.

The Broader Point

If you're two weeks into any supplement in this category and feeling discouraged, that's an extremely common point in the timeline, not necessarily a sign it's failed. Whether to push through to a fair trial length (I'd say at least 6-8 weeks, ideally the full 60-day guarantee window) is a judgment call, but quitting at week 2 specifically doesn't give most formulas in this category a real chance.
